Registered Massage Therapy

Massage has been used for thousands of years for restoration of the physical body, to promote relaxation, and to deepen the connection between the body and the mind. Within a therapeutic framework the practice of massage therapy has evolved. Today Registered Massage Therapists in BC are trained extensively to promote, maintain, and rehabilitate physical function, relieve pain, and promote health and well-being through assessment and manual treatment of the soft tissues and joints of the body.

Massage Therapy treatments at The Nest will include a combination of manual therapy techniques designed to meet your individual therapeutic needs.

The Nest is meant to be a safe, comfortable, and inclusive therapeutic space where all individuals are welcome to experience the benefits of massage therapy.

Relaxation

Massage

Massage can help your body and mind come to a state of relaxation and greater presence. Manual techniques are used to ease restrictions, promote release of natural endorphins to ease pain, and experience the presence of our physical body. There is great therapeutic value in stepping out of our busy lives and experiencing a restful and present state of being.

Infant Massage

Infants can benefit from nurturing touch in a variety of ways including relaxation, promotion of physical growth and neurological development, and improved sleep and digestion. Infant massage can also promote social and emotional development as infants interact through touch and face to face interaction. Parent/caregiver participation can promote bonding and awareness of infants cues.

Pediatric Massage

Children can benefit from and enjoy massage therapy too! Massage therapy for children helps to address growing aches and pains, injuries and digestive issues. Pediatric massage can also promote relaxation, physical health and well-being.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage is a manual therapy technique used to treat swelling, scar tissue, tissue congestion and inflammation. It can also be beneficial for promoting healing at a cellular level.

During a lymphatic drainage treatment the therapist uses specific manual movements that stimulate the structures of the lymphatic system. This encourages lymph to flow and drain through the body's lymphatic drainage pathways. It feels gentle, light and rhythmic and can induce a deep state of relaxation.

Lymphatic Drainage can be used to treat a variety of health conditions, as well as promoting maintenance of good health. At The Nest we commonly use lymphatic drainage to treat:

  • pre and post surgical procedures (cesarean sections, mastectomy, orthopedic or other abdominal surgeries)

  • Breast health (mastitis, breast congestion, post-mastectomy, fibrous breast tissue, general breast health)

  • Postpartum care

  • Stress

  • Skin conditions (eczema, acne, general health)

  • Digestive concerns

  • Acute injuries

  • Whiplash

  • Concussions

  • Joint conditions

  • Venous conditions
